GINNGER showcases innovative neighbourhood solutions and tools that empower cities, communities, and citizens to accelerate the energy transition.

On 5 November 2025, at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona, the GINNGER project took part in the panel “Pioneering Urban Energy Efficiency and Innovative Solutions” alongside other EU-funded projects — EU City Facility, InEExS, streamSAVE+, and ATELIER — to explore how cities are implementing tangible solutions for the energy transition.

The project presented its approach to co-creating sustainable neighbourhoods that combine energy efficiency, smart mobility, and circular resource use. Across six demonstration sites, the project is deploying up to 13 digital tools to support Green Neighbourhood Facilitators in designing, managing, and replicating greener communities.

“As part of GINNGER’s neighbourhood regeneration actions, the engagement of citizens in collective energy sharing communities is a key target,” said Juan Aranda, Technology Project Manager at CIRCE. “However, this endeavour turns out to be a great challenge for citizens who are not familiar with the energy sector. The implementation of GINNGER’s innovative co-creation methodology and the use of GINNGER’s digital solutions can contribute to paving the way for new energy community promoters, derisking the necessary initial investments, finding the right asset size, and facilitating the everyday life of the community members.”

The discussion underlined the value of collaboration among EU projects and the importance of accessible, replicable models to accelerate climate action in cities.

GINNGER was also featured in a Smart Energy Cluster booth session titled “Accelerating Energy Transition through Sustainable Energy Planning.” The session showcased how the project supports municipalities and stakeholders in developing Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans by providing easy access to relevant data, tools, and best practices. This approach strengthens local energy planning and increases the impact of energy investments, demonstrating how GINNGER contributes to actionable change on the ground.

Together with InEExS, GINNGER helped illustrate the collaborative vision of the Smart Energy Cluster, which unites EU-funded projects working to advance the energy transition in cities and communities. The discussion concluded with interactive exchanges between speakers and participants, identifying opportunities for future collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Through its dual participation, GINNGER reinforced its role as a key European initiative supporting urban regeneration, local energy efficiency, and climate resilience, translating innovation into real change for cities and communities.
