Members of the GINNGER pilot in Langreo visited the District Heating Pozo Fondón, an innovative installation that combines mine water geothermal energy with biomass.
Last 18 October, members of the GINNGER pilot in Langreo had the honour of attending the inauguration and visiting the District Heating Pozo Fondón, an innovative installation developed by Grupo HUNOSA. This pioneering system, which combines mine water geothermal energy with biomass, is the first of its kind in Europe and represents a significant milestone in the transition towards a more sustainable energy model.

Enhanced Energy Efficiency
The successful completion of the second phase of the District Heating network has enabled the system to extend its services to additional buildings, further optimising energy efficiency. This not only guarantees a stable and reliable energy supply, even during periods of high demand but also improves the overall performance of the geothermal system by balancing mine water dependency.
Environmental Impact
One of the most remarkable achievements of this project is its environmental impact. The District Heating Pozo Fondón installation reduces CO2 emissions by more than 1,300 tonnes per year, contributing directly to the fight against climate change.
Community Benefits
All the partners of the GINNGER pilot project in Langreo are very proud of the implementation of this installation that not only supports urban regeneration but also improves the quality of life of communities by providing a stable, sustainable and competitive energy supply.
