Bas-Belleville residents take action for a greener, more sustainable neighbourhood.

As part of the GINNGER project’s commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable urban regeneration, the latest workshop in the Bas-Belleville pilot site in Paris marked another key milestone in co-creating a greener, more liveable neighbourhood.

Following an initial brainstorming session in November, where residents shared their visions and ideas for improving their surroundings, the second workshop focused on turning those ideas into actionable steps. This participatory process brought together community members, local stakeholders, and urban planners to collaboratively define solutions tailored to the neighbourhood’s needs.

From Ideas to Action: Defining a Sustainable Path Forward

The core question guiding the discussion was: What concrete actions can make Bas-Belleville a more sustainable neighbourhood?

Through a structured co-design process, residents identified key priorities and outlined both short- and long-term strategies for implementation. Among the proposed actions, the most prominent included:

  • Greening courtyards and rooftops to enhance biodiversity and mitigate the effects of urban heat.
  • Organising group purchases for shutters to improve energy efficiency in homes.
  • Installing rainwater collectors to promote sustainable water use and reduce environmental impact.
  • Creating solidarity networks for heatwaves to ensure community members, particularly vulnerable populations, receive support during extreme weather events.

A Collective Commitment to Change

The workshop culminated in the development of a collective action plan, setting clear objectives and responsibilities to ensure the implementation of these initiatives. Participants actively engaged in discussing resource allocation, potential funding opportunities, and partnerships with local organizations to bring their ideas to life.

Beyond planning, the session also served as a valuable moment for social cohesion, ending with a friendly gathering that reinforced community bonds and collective commitment to the neighbourhood’s transformation.

This initiative aligns with GINNGER’s broader mission of fostering participatory urban regeneration by integrating local voices into the decision-making process. Bas-Belleville’s engagement demonstrates the power of grassroots involvement in shaping sustainable and inclusive urban environments.

Stay tuned for further updates as we continue working together to build a greener, more resilient Bas-Belleville!
