Halfway through the GINNGER journey, partners gathered in Langreo, Spain, to take stock of achievements and map out the road ahead.
GINNGER partners met in Langreo for the second General Assembly, a key moment as the project reaches its halfway point. Warmly welcomed by the Asturian team, participants reviewed the progress made so far and planned the next steps toward achieving the project’s goals.
Exploring Langreo’s Energy Transition
The first day spotlighted Langreo’s inspiring shift toward sustainable energy. Participants visited three standout initiatives:
- the photovoltaic installation and local energy community led by Fundación Asturiana de la Energía (FAEN);
- the social housing buildings managed by VIPASA;
- and the geothermal-biomass district heating operated by Grupo HUNOSA.
In the afternoon, the team stepped back in time with a visit to the Samuño Valley Ecomuseum, a former coal mine turned into a tribute to the region’s industrial heritage.
Shaping the Next Steps
The second day focused on the project’s progress and upcoming milestones. Partners presented updates on:
- digital tools for data integration and monitoring,
- the definition of key performance indicators to measure social, economic, and environmental impact.
- The advancements of co-creation activities driven by local facilitators and structured participation plans.
A common monitoring framework is now in place, and preparations for the demonstration phase are well underway, ensuring strong links between technical and social validation. The first functional versions of the Decision Support tools are approaching deployment, with integrated data models and initial testing already in progress.
Looking Ahead
At the project’s halfway mark, the results achieved across pilot sites show a strong commitment to sustainable and inclusive urban transformation. By blending advanced digital innovation with active community engagement, GINNGER is setting a strong foundation for its next phase, and for continued collaboration among all partners.
