La Bolera Residents Help Shape Energy-Efficient Social Housing with GINNGER

As part of its ongoing mission to put people at the heart of urban regeneration, the GINNGER project recently held a vibrant co-creation session in the La Bolera neighbourhood of Ciaño-Langreo, in Asturias, Spain.

This initiative in one of six pilot sites of GINNGER focuses on a key challenge: the energy-efficient refurbishment of social housing. In fact, improving energy performance in these homes is not only a step toward greater sustainability—it is also essential in tackling energy poverty and boosting quality of life for local residents.

In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, neighbours from the building gathered to meet with three project partners: FCA, Vipasa, and CTIC. Together, they shared personal experiences, discussed comfort levels, and reflected on day-to-day energy use. Their insights were invaluable in helping the project team understand how residents perceive their living conditions and what matters most when it comes to future upgrades.

At GINNGER, we believe energy efficiency is not just about technology—it is about people. Every neighbourhood has its own context, challenges, and needs. And real, lasting change begins with listening.

Additionally, residents were invited to complete a detailed survey on energy-related aspects of their homes. Many stayed afterward for a coffee and informal chat with the team—transforming the event into a genuine moment of connection and shared purpose.

The session followed GINNGER’s co-creation methodology: listen, learn, and build together. This approach ensures that any solution developed is grounded in the realities and aspirations of the people who will benefit from it.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the La Bolera residents who took part. Their openness, ideas, and spirit of collaboration are helping pave the way for more inclusive, efficient, and people-centred approaches to social housing regeneration—not just in Asturias, but across Europe.
