GINNGER: exploring innovative paths to urban regeneration

View online

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the fourth edition of the GINNGER newsletter.

A lot has been happening across the project in recent months, and this issue brings together some of the most interesting moments. From joining international events like Sustainable Places 2025 and the Smart City Expo World Congress to sharing new stories from our pilot cities, GINNGER has been busy connecting, learning and moving forward.

In this edition, you’ll find a new episode of the Urban Reboot video series from Massagno, our first journalistic article, and the release of the first policy brief focusing on the European framework.

We also introduce a new keyword that reflects a key part of the GINNGER approach, welcome our final two pilot sites, Orte and Paris, and share recent highlights from partners’ activities.

Have a look and catch up on what’s new across GINNGER.

GINNGER's Highlights

Inclusive Neighbourhood Regeneration at Sustainable Places 2025

At the Sustainable Places Conference, GINNGER took part in two workshops dedicated to transforming New European Bauhaus principles into inclusive, community-driven neighbourhood regeneration. Practical experiences, open discussions, and real-world challenges offered key insights into bridging the gap between ideas and implementation.

Empowering cities for the energy transition: GINNGER at Smart City Expo 2025

What does it take to help cities move faster towards the energy transition? At the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, GINNGER presented its work on sustainable neighbourhoods — from energy efficiency and smart mobility to circular resource use. Panel discussions and a Smart Energy Cluster session explored how digital tools, inclusive approaches, and cross-project collaboration can turn innovation into scalable, locally applicable solutions.

The Urban Reboot Journey Continues in Massagno

The second episode of GINNGER’s Urban Reboot series takes us to Massagno, focusing on the concrete steps underway to expand the local EV charging infrastructure. The video also shares early feedback from the community, offering a first glimpse into how the initiative is being received on the ground.

GINNGER's Keyword Spotlight

In each issue of the newsletter, we highlight a keyword that encapsulates an essential part of our work. Our fourth keyword is:

DIGITAL TWIN TOOL

A digital twin tool is a digital simulation that represents real buildings and allows users to analyse their current energy performance and test renovation scenarios. It helps local and regional authorities plan, evaluate, and improve building renovation policies by showing the potential impacts of different retrofitting options through an accessible digital interface.
